Планета всёж таки отличается от идеи Had Abbadon'а из драфтов.
Это чем же?
Pan down to reveal the planet HAD ABBADON, capitol of the Galactic Empire. The gray planet’s surface is completely covered with cities and is shrouded in a sickly brown haze. - STAR WARS – EPISODE VI :“REVENGE OF THE JEDI”Written by GEORGE LUCAS [REVISED] ROUGH DRAFT [June 12] © 1981 Lucasfilm Ltd.
Зан придумал Корусант.
1991 was a landmark year in Star Wars publishing. It saw the debut of Timothy Zahn's Heir to the Empire, the first spin-off novel to expand the Star Wars story beyond Return of the Jedi. Set five years after the Battle of Endor, Heir reveals that the Rebel Alliance had formed a New Republic to replace the Galactic Empire. This new government ruled from the former Imperial capital world.
Heir to the Empire would be the first story anywhere to use the city planet as a setting. Zahn used the original desсriptions from the Jedi sсripts as a basis for the planet, though he was responsible for coining the world's new name: Coruscant, a world that literally means "glittering."
А Had Abbadon так никогда и не появился, хотя очень и очень жаль. Он был якобы "реализован" в "Звезде Смерти" (просто спецэффекты не позволили реализовать всё по-хорошему, вот и всё...)
"But, the biggest thing left out of RETURN OF THE JEDI was the planet for the rebels. We worked on this Imperial City a long time, but it's never visited in the film. George decided to just have everything take place in space. It's elaborate and quite pretty. But I don't want to reveal what it looks like because George might use it in the future." - Ralph McQuarrie, in an interview with STARLOG Magazine (10/83)
"In the end it didn't seem necessary to show the home planet of the Empire. It seemed more important that we focus on the major target of what we were going after in the movie. So to show Vader and the Emperor in an area that didn't relate to the story didn't seem necessary. Of course, I had a million different names for the home planet of the Empire, but Coruscant came out of publishing." – George Lucas Star Wars: The Annotated Screenplays
Ну и если на то пошло.
Столицу Галактической Империи, Планету-Город придумал Айзек Азимов:
TRANTOR-... At the beginning of the thirteenth millennium, this tendency reached its climax. As the center of the Imperial Government for unbroken hundreds of generations and located, as it was, toward the central regions of the Galaxy among the most densely populated and industrially advanced worlds of the system, it could scarcely help being the densest and richest clot of humanity the Race had ever seen.
Its urbanization, progressing steadily, had finally reached the ultimate. All the land surface of Trantor, 75,000,000 square miles in extent, was a single city. The population, at its height, was well in excess of forty billions. This enormous population was devoted almost entirely to the administrative necessities of Empire, and found themselves all too few for the complications of the task. (It is to be remembered that the impossibility of proper administration of the Galactic Empire under the uninspired leadership of the later Emperors was a considerable factor in the Fall.) Daily, fleets of ships in the tens of thousands brought the produce of twenty agricultural worlds to the dinner tables of Trantor....
Its dependence upon the outer worlds for food and, indeed, for all necessities of life, made Trantor increasingly vulnerable to conquest by siege. In the last millennium of the Empire, the monotonously numerous revolts made Emperor after Emperor conscious of this, and Imperial policy became little more than the protection of Trantor's delicate jugular vein....
